Lottery Sales
There are a fair number of jurisdictions where they have a lottery sale. The difference between a lottery sale and a round robin is that a round robin guarantees you, at least, a shot at a number of liens, whereas a lottery depends on how lucky you are.
Statistically, a fairly run lottery should give you the same chances, depending on your luck. Most lotteries use some mechanism to randomly pick a bidder who then says “yes, I will buy the lien” or “no, I pass”.
My major problem with this type of system is that if I work hard, do my homework and know which liens are good and which liens are bad, I really have a little advantage over anyone else. I want my work to be rewarded.
